A must-visit for those wanting to learn more about this once-royal city, the Hannover Museum of History (Historisches Museum Hannover) can easily be tackled in a visit of two or three hours.
Set in one of the city's oldest buildings (complete with fortified tower), the museum provides a fascinating insight into some 900-plus years of local history, from its earliest recorded events in the turn of the 12th century right up to today.
Highlights include displays explaining the city's ties to the British Royal Family, as well as exhibits of cultural and religious artifacts.
