This fort was built in the middle of the 16th century to resist the Turkish invaders and to complete the defense system of the Savoy States.
It was built by order of Emmanuel Philibert, Duke of Savoy, at the top of a hill 220 meters above sea level. Its plateau offers a panoramic view of the bay of Villefranche-sur-Mer to Estérel.
Of polygonal shape, the fort has kept its bastions and its sentry boxes. It has indeed undergone no major changes since its construction, despite several taken by the French troops including in 1744 and 1792 and its use as a prison in the late eighteenth century to join Nice to France in 1860.
