Papplewick Pumping Station is one of the finest examples of Victorian industrial design in Britain, and is a great example of nineteenth-century handicrafts.
It boasts a host of original features including an ornate cooling pool and a Boiler House with six Lancashire boilers, all set amongst landscaped grounds.
The Engine ornate Engine House is home to the original dual drives, built by James Watt in 1884.
