This magnificent gothic structure was built in the 15th century for the establishment of the city's Silk Exchange, the marketplace where the famous Valencia silk was sold to merchants (to be sold throughout Europe).

The building resembles one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in Europe, and is a medieval castle with its massive outer tower. The façade features rich decorative doors, patterned windows and drums (ugly carved creatures that act as water pipes).

The main hall has a rich stellar cellar with twisted columns. Visitors can climb 144 stone steps from the spiral staircase to the tower.

From the top of the tower, the city views are stunning. This attraction is open to the public daily. On Sundays, La Lonja is used as a venue for currency and stamp exhibitions
