This innovative museum was created in 2002 when Salamanca was designated as a European Cultural Capital. The Domus Artium houses a collection of contemporary art in a building that was formerly a prison.

The space was completely renovated, as well as expanded to display the art works to the best advantage.

Much of the collection focuses on avant-garde-style works and art created with novel technologies. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday and admission is free.

Guided tours are available. Tourists can stop at the museum's café for a snack or light meal.
