Interest in the construction of the Abu Simbel airport in southern Egypt began at the end of 1964, when a committee from the Civil Aviation Authority then traveled to the Abu Simbel area to choose a site that could be set up as a Dakota airstrip to transport tourists arriving to visit the two temples of Abu Simbel.
