The mosque was first built in the middle of the second century AH, and then received great attention by the caliphs of the Muslims; it witnessed several renovations and expansions, the largest of which was in the Saudi era, with a total area now more than 110 thousand square meters, in addition to the fully shaded backyard. It is estimated at 8 thousand m 2, and has six minarets with a height of 60 meters and three domes and ten entrances.
