It is a monumental building built in memory of 4,000 Nice people who died in France during the First World War. Its construction began in 1924 and was inaugurated in 1928 by Marshal Foch.
Attached to the castle hill, this war memorial is 32 meters high. At its feet is a large square surrounded by stelae, on which bas-reliefs evoke infantry, artillery, cavalry, engineering, navy and aviation.
The urn is placed on columns and framed by three large arches. On its base we can admire two high-reliefs which represent on one side Liberty, Strength, Sacred Fire and Victory, symbolizing War, and on the other side Work, Home Love and Fertility. , symbolizing Peace.
