Anba Samaan Monastery is one of the remaining archaeological sites in Aswan, one of the most important tourist places in Aswan, which is of interest to both Christian and Muslim visitors, especially as it is located in the way of pilgrims who seek to rest from the troubles of the trip.
Excavations and documents indicate that this monastery was built in the sixth century AD, and is characterized by its unique design and its long-standing role in the region as a vivid picture of the fraternity between the Christian and Islamic religions.It is one of the famous monasteries of Bakhoumia which played an important social role besides its religious role.
The monastery is situated on a high hill near the Aga Khan Mausoleum. It is surrounded by a desert that extends from each side. The monastery was named after Anba Simon, one of the founders of the monastery.
