Not far from Grindelwald lies Gletscherschlucht – known alternately as Glacier Gorge or Glacier Ravine. Carved by a receding glacier, this striking chasm features pink quartz cliffs, peculiar rock striations, and amazing mountain views.
Thanks to the dizzyingly high bridges that cling to the gorge’s walls, you can walk about half a mile up the ravine without rock-climbing equipment. The nearby Hotel Gletscherschlucht has a full-service restaurant and clean, rustic rooms.
